Could Sclerotherapy Be Right For You?
Many patients hold off on treatments for fear of pain or for concern about the outcome. When you live with varicose veins for a long time you begin to feel like they will never go away and you resign yourself to simply putting up with and living with them.
They do not need to remain a part of your life. With the amazing advances in medical technology vein treatments such as sclerotherapy are virtually painless and the results are amazing.
The vast majority of our patients, once the procedure is done, remark that they cannot believe they waited so long and wish they had done it sooner.
What sclerotherapy involves
Sclerotherapy is injection-based using an ultra-fine needle filled with a biologically safe chemical solution. It is injected into the small to medium-sized varicose veins as well as advanced spider veins.
The chemical solution causes the veins to shrink and gradually disappear. One session lasts approximately 15 minutes. There are very few reported allergic reactions to the solution used and it is safe for the majority of people.
Depending on the scope of damaged veins, more than one session may be required. That will be decided during the initial consultation and evaluation. Sclerotherapy is sometimes used as a stand-alone treatment except in the case of minute spider veins where laser treatment is used in conjunction.
The Biggest Question: Is it Painful?
The majority of patients say it feels like an itchy burning sensation that lasts for 5-10 minutes post-treatment. You will feel the needle being inserted into the skin. We use the smallest gauge needles possible to reduce the discomfort felt by our patients.
Normal activities may be resumed immediately. After healing, stockings are recommended for long trips, prolonged standing, or when legs ache.
