Venous Insufficiency and it’s Many Forms

Venous Insufficiency West Florida Vein centerWe don’t give much daily thought to our circulatory system until something feels wrong.

Our vein health is a vital part of our overall state of health. Our veins are what carries our blood back to the lungs and heart newly replenished with oxygen as well as nutrients needed to allow our bodies to function fully.

When they are damaged, this ability can become compromised. When our veins develop problems they can vary in severity, but all should be checked out by a Vein Specialist to ensure the very best outcome possible. The sooner you head off varicose and spider vein formation the less spreading you undergo and the less pain and discomfort you are likely to experience.

Types of vein issues

Thrombosis – A Thrombosis is a blood clot inside the vein. Blood clots can stop blood flow or a clot may break free and travel through the bloodstream to the heart and lungs. This is potentially a very dangerous condition.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – A DVT is a blood clot which formed in the large veins deep within the legs, arms, or pelvis.

Thrombophlebitis – Swelling caused by a blood clot.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) – venous reflux, venous hypertension, varicose veins, spider veins. CVI can cause damage or weakness in the vein wall or vein valve that allows blood to flow back into the vein.

Pulmonary Embolism (PE) – An embolism happens when a blood clot breaks free from a deep vein and makes ends up in an artery in the lung. This condition is life-threatening as it can cause heart failure. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you have trouble breathing or if you are coughing up blood.
