Experience Sclerotherapy in Safety Harbor, Florida

Ready to say goodbye to damaged veins forever?

Experience Sclerotherapy in Safety Harbor, FloridaVaricose veins can be a sensitive subject for anyone who has them, and it should come as no surprise that those who do suffer from varicose veins understandably want to take care of them quickly and painlessly. Sclerotherapy is one such varicose vein removal procedure that is popular among patients who are looking to get back on their feet quickly, while experiencing little to no pain in the process.

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive and non-surgical procedure that has been in use for over 150 years, though its first attempted use was actually recorded as far back as 1692. As an alternative to sometimes painful surgical vein removals, sclerotherapy is highly innovative in that it requires no incisions or anesthesia, as veins are simply treated with medical solutions to make them shrink and disappear. While the results of a sclerotherapy procedure are not immediately apparent, patients do start to note an improvement in their veins in as little as three weeks.

What Can I Expect?
A typical sclerotherapy procedure is done right in your doctor’s office, usually requires no anesthesia, and takes between 1 and 2 hours to perform.

  1. At the start of the procedure, you will lie on your back with your legs elevated, and the area to be treated will be cleaned and sterilized.

    2. Your doctor will insert a fine needle into the problem vein, through which a solution will be injected. This solution will either be in liquid or foam form.

    3. The solution immediately starts to work on the problem vein by irritating the vein’s lining, causing it to swell shut and eventually disappear. Some people report minor tingling or cramps during this stage of the procedure, and any excessive pain or discomfort should be reported to your doctor as it may be a possible sign of complication.

    4. After the needle has been removed, your doctor will massage the area to disperse the solution and apply compression to keep blood out of the injected vessel. If multiple veins are being treated, a compression pad may be used so that your physician may continue working on other veins.

    5. Depending on the size and number of veins being treated, multiple injections may be required within a single procedure.

    6. After the procedure is complete, you will remain lying on your back for 15-20 minutes while your physician checks for any side effects or issues.

Instructions for Recovery
While patients who undergo sclerotherapy are usually able to resume normal activities almost immediately, you should still follow all instructions from your physician in order to ensure a fast and comfortable recovery:

  • Take frequent walks and make sure to move your legs frequently in general, as this will promote healing and prevent blood clots from forming.
  • Wear compression stockings as recommended, typically for about three weeks following the initial procedure.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activities for two weeks following the procedure.
  • Avoid sun exposure to treated areas for two weeks following the procedure, as it can react with the inflammation caused by your injections and result in discolorations on the skin.
  • Keep any follow-up appointments with your physician, as they will want to check your progress to determine if any additional procedures are necessary.

Varicose veins are not only unsightly, but they can also be quite uncomfortable, and their removal is essential when addressing various venous conditions. While there are multiple removal methods to be considered, sclerotherapy is often very popular due to its minimally invasive nature and fast and painless recovery period.
