Vein Pain – It’s Not All The Same

Vein Pain – It’s Not All The Same

If your legs ache, swell and show signs of varicose or spider veins you may assume that you have venous insufficiency. While you are most likely correct in your self diagnoses, it is important to follow up with a professional Tampa Vein Specialist such as Dr. Mark Zuzga to pinpoint more accurately what exactly is going on with your circulatory health.

Depending on the type of venous issue you have the treatment can vary, so knowing what you have really is the first step to wellness. Lets briefly touch on different vein problems and what they look like.

Thrombosis: A thrombosis is a clot. A clot is a gathering together of blood cells that stick into one blob and will not let go of one another. Clots cause blockages within the veins. They can break free of their original position and travel through the system having the potential to cause heart attacks, strokes, and pulmonary embolisms.

Thrombophlebitis: This is the name for the swelling that is caused by the clot.

Deep Vein Thrombosis: Deep Vein Thrombosis is the term for a clot that forms in the deepest veins of the body including the pelvis, legs and even arms.

Post Thrombotic Syndrome: Once the clot is cleared if symptoms still are ongoing it is known as post thrombotic syndrome. Either more of a clot is still remaining or it has caused damage to the veins and requires a closer look.

Phlebitis: Vein swelling

Venous Sores: Also known as ulcers. When left untreated for an extended period of time, ulcers will form. They are very difficult to heal.

The earlier you catch and treat any type of venous issue, the better the ultimate results will be. For a proper diagnosis, please call our office and schedule an appointment with Dr. Mark Zuzga.
