Vein Damage is Progressive

Progressive vein damage west florida vein centerThe best time to take care of vein issues is when they first begin. It can be subtle at first and go unnoticed. You may notice your legs feel more tired than usual, slightly heavy, or you may visually start to see small colored veins coming to the surface. They may come in the form of varicose veins (deeper veins that begin to twist and surface) or as spider veins (tiny surface veins that can form small webs of blue, purple, or reddish).

The best time to go see a Vein Specialist is at the start. The sooner you get help and treatment the less this disease can progress.

Many people choose to wait thinking “Its not that noticeable.” Or “I’m ok, I can just rest after work.” Not realizing that left untreated vein damage spreads over time.

Once the pathology develops, it progresses through an uncomfortable cycle of inflammation and leukocyte recruitment that leads to further deterioration of vein valves and walls, hypertension ensues and release of additional proinflammatory mediators causing more tenderness, pain, and swelling.

Vein disease left untreated becomes chronic. It is known as CVI Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Once at this level, if CVI is left untreated it can lead to the post-phlebitic syndrome and venous ulcers. This consists of leg pain, leg swelling, pruritus, and skin discoloration. It can put you at risk for developing DVTs (Deep Vein Thrombosis) – blood clots deep in the leg that if they break lose may travel to your heart, lungs, or brain resulting in a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism.

Treatments are outpatient, fairly noninvasive, nearly pain free, and heal with marvelous results. Our patients often remark that they only wish they had come in sooner.

Most treatments are covered by insurance.
